Protest Against Renovation of Youth Jail by Seattle Save the Kids on March 8, 2016
Today, on International Womyn’s Day, Seattle Save the Kids, in solidarity with several other local groups, participated in a protest against the city of Seattle spending $210 million on renovating the youth jail. We believe that investing that type of money in education and community based solutions to the issues that prevent students from being successful is a more effective solution to crime in our community. We view punitive discipline, the majority of which for our community’s youth is a result of truancy, as an arbitrary and ineffective intervention and envision a future free from the incarceration of youth. Save the Kids Seattle is fully committed to helping prevent the new youth jail from being constructed. Click here for news on this event.
