Biannual Crime, Justice, and Equity Conference

This conference is a Utah statewide undergraduate and graduate student-led and centered educational forum within the field of criminal justice and criminology. This conference is grounded in critical, innovative, inclusive, and equitable theoretical and practical presentations.

KEYNOTE
Hip Hop Through Generations for Justice and Education

Nathaniel Sanders is a twenty-two year-old college student, currently attending Salt Lake Community College pursuing the Film Production Technician (AAS) degree. Before starting his SLCC 2018 fall enrollment, Nate attended the University of Utah from fall 2015 to spring 2018, being involved in a film club and taking multiple film-related courses. He had an actor role in a 2016 short webisode series titled Eight Zero One. He currently has four years of experience editing (mainly with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects), and three years of acting experience. He likes a mix of both. He’s had a passion for film since the age of twelve, and aims to impact the world with powerful messages through film. He has edited and contributed to several short films and a thirty minute documentary, and worked a short internship with Sundance in 2019.

Clifton G. Sanders, received his doctorate from University of Utah and his bachelors from Hamline University. Sanders is the Provost for Academic Affairs at Salt Lake Community College. He has more than 25 years teaching, administrative and leadership experience in higher education. He led the development of several STEM programs and is a collaborator on several local, regional and national initiatives on education, diversity and inclusivity, and workforce development. His scientific work resulted in six patents in biomaterials technology.  He is a University of Utah Chemistry Department Distinguished Alumnus, and he coauthored a 2009 paper on music and democracy published in Radical Philosophy Review.

Maxwell Bond is currently a criminal justice student at Salt Lake Community College working on his Associate Degree. After school, he plans to continue his career at the Utah Department of Corrections. His goal is to next make Sergeant, move to investigations, and possibly teach future academy classes. His end goal is to make Captain and run his own unit. He has lived in Sandy his entire life, and he just bought his first house in Sandy as well. Outside of school and work, He likes to snowboard, bowl, and go camping.

Natalie Parada is currently studying Criminal Justice here at Salt Lake Community College. Her goals after finishing her education are to pursue a career in Corrections where she can help inmates find a better solution to their lives or pursue a career where she helps impact the lives of youth who may be going down the wrong path, specifically in Juvenile Justice. She grew up in Utah and wants to continue a future career here for the time being. She personally doesn’t have a lot of time to enjoy hobbies she would like due to the fact that she is a Student Ambassador here at Salt Lake Community College, but whenever she does have some downtime she likes to listen to music to destress herself.

Virginia Moreno-Bric is a student at Salt Lake Community College. After her time at Salt Lake Community College she will be continuing her education at the University of Utah. Once she finishes school she wants to be a criminal prosecutor for the state of Utah. Virginia was born in Argentina, moved to the United States when she was 2 years old and grew up in Millcreek, Utah. She enjoys playing sports, snowboarding, reading mysteries, going to school, road trips to the beach and spending time with her family.

Room One
1.
Mason Connolly is a student at Salt Lake Community College. This is her final semester at SLCC and will be continuing her bachelors degree in criminal justice at Weber State University.  After finishing her bachelors degree she wants to begin her career in the INTERPOL. She was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah but hopes to move to Europe when her career takes off. Mason likes to backpack, hike, ski, watch movies and go to the lake.

Jade Thomas is a student at Salt Lake Community College and is studying Criminal Justice as well as preparing to attend the Law Enforcement Academy. She plans to finish her schooling with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and ultimately find a career in Law Enforcement on a K9 Unit. She was raised on the East Coast in various states but now resides in Sandy, UT with plans on moving back to the coast. Outside of her studies, Jade enjoys being training and continuing her education with working K9s in sport such as Obedience and Schutzhund.
